Gilmour’s Montessori preschool program begins with the Early Beginnings program for students ages 18-months- to 36-months-old, with half-day and full-day options available. For 3-5-year-olds, there are two preschool and kindergarten classes. The 3- and 4-year-olds attend for a half-day with the option to stay for the extended day Montessori Prep program in the afternoon. The 5-year-olds spend a full kindergarten day in the Montessori program.
Our Montessori Program is one of only six in Ohio to earn the American Montessori Society accreditation. The Gilmour Academy Montessori Program reflects the philosophy and teaching methods first established by Dr. Maria Montessori throughout Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The Montessori program promotes self-directed learning, allowing children to learn at their own pace and in their own style, thereby fostering a lifelong love of learning. It utilizes an interdisciplinary approach and teaches children how to learn instead of just what to learn. A certified Montessori teacher guides the child through Kindergarten in emotional, social, cognitive and physical growth. The Montessori materials are designed to bring forth coordination, concentration, order and independence within the child.
