Our Montessori Program is one of only six in Ohio to earn the American Montessori Society accreditation.
Gilmour’s Montessori Program will open a new class for students ages 18 months to 36 months at the start of the new school year in August 2013 called Early Beginnings. There will now be three Montessori classes at Gilmour’s Lower School. For any additional questions or information about either the Early Beginnings class or Montessori Preschool and Kindergarten classes, please contact the Lower School at (440) 473-8165.
The Gilmour Academy Montessori Program reflects the philosophy and teaching methods first established by Dr. Maria Montessori throughout Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. The Montessori Method is a proven educational theory. A certified Montessori teacher guides the child through Kindergarten in emotional, social, cognitive and physical growth. The Montessori materials are designed to bring forth coordination, concentration, order and independence within the child. The Montessori program promotes self-directed learning, allowing children to learn at their own pace and in their own style, thereby fostering a lifelong love of learning. It utilizes an interdisciplinary approach and teaches children how to learn instead of just what to learn.
