Welcome to the Gilmour Academy website and thank you for visiting. Gilmour, named after the second Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland Richard Gilmour, was founded in 1946 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana. We trace our traditions back more than 175 years to the teachings of Blessed Father Basil Moreau, C.S.C., founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross.
Our Holy Cross mission emphasizes development of the whole person with a focus on a rigorous academic program, but also stresses a moral imperative to foster faith development, conscience formation, leadership and service. We seek to truly inspire a difference in the lives of the young people entrusted to us as we grow together into a successful community of lifelong learners prepared to engage in making our world more humane and just. We cultivate an environment that inspires within every student a desire for excellence and a strong sense of self-worth. We are mission-oriented community in which we create an extraordinary educational experience.
Gilmour's faculty embraces our mission and personalizes instruction in a way that is challenging, engaging and intentional with curriculum that integrates 21st century content with real-life application. We want our students to learn to discover and develop their own gifts while discerning the deepest longings of the heart. This comes from a personal engagement of mastering necessary skills for life in a global community and each student’s discovery of his or her own voice.
If there was ever a time for transformational education focused on competent and courageous leadership making the world more humane and just, it is now. We join our global Catholic Holy Cross Family in crossing borders of every sort to be people of hope, preparing for a future where none of us have been.
